Moises Solis has been a blacksmith for over 55 years. He crafted most of the ironwork at La Purisima Mission.
Established in 1787, and destroyed by an earthquake in 1812, it was rebuilt on the present site. I did some light painting with this one.
Bells were important to daily life at the mission. It was rung at mealtimes, to call the Mission residents to work, and to religious services, during births and funerals, to signal the approach of a ship or returning missionary.
